Rhino

Information about Rhino

Rhino is the mobile M.A.S.K. command center. Rhino adorns the M.A.S.K. logo and was originally the inspiration for the name of the Toys and the series M.A.S.K. whose first title was A.T.Wheeler, and can be seen the logo.
Rhino is a 1985 Kenworth W900 Aerodyne.

The toy featured Matt Trakker with his Ultraflash mask (which many claim to be the mask of the logo) and Bruce Sato with his lifter mask. In the first wave of toys, in the US, the short versions of the masks were included, and from the second wave, the long versions. You can tell which version was in which box by the boxes. See below.

The Rhino toys came with licensed "Goodyear" rubber tires. According to the 80's look, Rhino got lush amounts of chrome parts, and was tuned according to the spirit of the times.

For example, the smokestacks, cab visor, rearview mirrors, lights and horns on the roof, headlights, rims, grille, horns on the fenders, air filters, air intake pipes in the hood, the and fuel tanks and the saddle plate were chrome plated.

Special add-on parts not found in the production version of the truck, the horns on the fenders, and the air intake pipes in the hood.

Rhino was delivered with decals to be applied by the buyer. These ranged from the grille to the sleeper cab.

As the largest and most expensive toy in the first series, Rhino was full packed with action features. Pressing the left chrome button behind the cab extended the front bumper and grille as a battering ram, while the right button opened the passenger side door and ejected the figure sitting in the passenger seat.

The two smokestacks can be folded down over the front fenders, and then serve as lasers and fog lights.

The sleeping cabin can be opened manually by pulling it back. Once it is open, the boarding ramp can be folded down and the roof unfolded. This opens up a view of the command center and missile launch base. Outside of Europe, Rhino came with a black rocket. In first wave of Europe, there was also the black rocket, then a gray one. In Germany it became a satellite, as no weapons were allowed to be sold with the toys. The rocket was released by means of a button on the back of the sleeping cabin.

The back of Rhino, behind the sleeping cabin, housed Rhino's exploration vehicle. This could be easily pulled out. Rhino leaves the outer part of the 2nd axle, the inner wheels form the front axle of the exploration vehicle. Then the saddle plate can be open and a figure can take a seat in the exploration vehicle.

Rhino had variations in details, which differed either in some countries, or the country of manufacture. Details below.

There were 11 stickers that had to be attached.

Differences of the US boxes first toyline

That there were short and long masks from the MASK first toy series, every collector knows. But how can you tell if there are short or long masks in sealed boxes? The 1st and 2nd wave had small but fine details on the boxes, by which you can tell. James Mason posted interesting details on Facebook. Attached are the differences for the Rhino boxes.

Differences of the boxes

The boxes had some differences in different countries, even within the same country. In the same country there were changes in different years.
The EU boxes are completely different from the boxes from the other countries. So you have no back on which the toy is explained, it is just the same site as the front, only with different languages. You can see this in the boxes section. All other differences follow now. Attached are the differences for the Rhino boxes.

US Box

Kenner M.A.S.K. Rhino differences boxes 1
The artwork of the box is very different from the EU box. The color of Rhino goes more into purple. By Lance Anderson we know that the boxes were redesigned for the European market. A different airbrush artist was at work here than on the EU box. On the roof of Rhino 5 lamps can be seen, these are on the Eu box on the sunshade on the roof (as with the toy).
